This room looked great. There are some paintings and other artsy displays. The room appeared to be clean and all the chairs I used were in excellent condition. The tables were also in excellent condition. The shuffle machines were extremely fast: on a couple of "chopped" pots the machine was finishing just in time to start the next hand. It was a very quiet room as it is down a short hallway from the main casino floor. It was very close to the restrooms. It was also quite close to the Wynn's elevator bank, and thus very easy to go back and forth to our hotel room.
My rating of "average" is simply compared to what I have seen in other poker rooms on The Strip. I played there five times in total, for approximately 11 hours; not a huge sample size. With that being said, three of my sessions were at night in the 11:30pm - 3:00am range, and I didn't see any drunks giving their money away. I play regularly in my hometown and certainly consider myself to be a good poker player. And in my sessions at the Wynn I booked a win every time, so perhaps I shouldn't say the competition was tough. It's just different than other rooms. It was nice to be able to make moves against people that would respect them. I still got paid off on most of my big hands and would have been up even more if not for a couple of coolers. There are certainly easier games around town, but I wouldn't be fearful of the action at the Wynn.
Many of the dealers were very fast. I don't recall any mistakes that I would consider bad dealing (simply a few exposed cards if a player reached too quickly as the card was coming to them, etc). The dealers would converse with players in a professional manner, weren't opposed to having a good time with the players, and kept the game running smoothly. On one occassion when a dealer was dividing up a side pot when a short-stacked player pushed all-in and was called in two places, it seemed to take him longer than necessary to get the pots in order.
The waitresses were attractive and attentive to drink requests. The Wynn has a wide selection of liquor to choose from. The speed of service was average, and the sole reason why I am rating this as good rather than excellent. Most player requests were for water or coffee: the Wynn provides Fiji Water which is a nice perk, and when a player asked for coffee the waitress would ask them how many cream/sugar they wanted.
The list was electronic and displayed on television right about the poker room's front desk. Waiting players needed to stay nearby to listen for their name to be called, I believe that I overheard the staff offering pagers but I am not certain of this. Once a name was called, they were second-called and final-called very fast in my opinion. The managers were courteous and professional, and reasonably friendly. Questions were answered as needed. The floor was never called to a table I was to make a decision; when I saw it happen on a table next to me the interaction seemed to be proper. One situation that I feel could have been better was the unwillingness to break a table. One of the nights that I played, it was getting late and several of the tables had started to lose players. My table was playing six-handed. One of the players asked one of the managers if there was enough seats for all of us on the other tables, and there clearly was. However the manager told her that they don't break a six-handed game as it's bad for business. I understand the manager's side as the more tables dropping a rake, the better for the casino. However, for a player, I too would rather play nine-handed then six. As a customer, although I understand the logic to keeping the shorthanded tables open, it was disappointing that the management did not listen to a player's reasonable request. That particular player left within five minutes of the manager saying no.
Comps at the Wynn were $1 per hour, which is the norm at most Strip poker rooms. There are no high-hand or bad beat jackpots, thus no +1 on the rake which is nice. We'd all like the comps to be higher, but in my opinion, they were exactly what I was expecting.
