Whereas poker congregates around a central point in most U.S. states, North Dakota’s offering is more evenly-spread across the area of the state. The World Series of Poker is at the forefront of the minds of most North Dakota poker venues, as proven by the WSOP satellites which run throughout the year in 4 Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town, Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson, and Sky Dancer Casino in Belcourt. Although online poker is not permitted anywhere in North Dakota, residents should check out the ND Texas Hold’em Championship at The Vegas Motel and Guest Lodge. Freeroll satellites are on offer around the state throughout the year.
South Dakota’s poker rooms draw upon the state’s gambling history in their designs. Poker has been part of the culture in South Dakota for more than 100 years. Nowadays, venues such as Saloon No. 10 and The Lodge in Deadwood provide low-stakes tournaments and cash games in authentic Wild West-style settings. In total, there are more than 20 tables of action dotted around the perimeter of the state. Although most daily and weekly tournaments in South Dakota are affordable enough to attract recreational players, there are some $100+ no-limit hold’em events for more high-level grinders. As these are the biggest tourneys around, prepare for large fields and tough competition!
