The Good: Cash games are lively and typically full of action, spreading primarily low-stakes NLH and PLO. Mostly looser, splashy regs who tend to pump the pot and nits, both of whom could be exploited with patient play. Tournaments are good and typical of those found in casinos with fast-climbing 20 min blinds and top-heavy payouts. A pretty good kitchen offering a variety of dishes and a "chef special". Complimentary soft drinks and other non-alcoholic drinks. Solid, friendly management, nice beverage service attendees, and good, experienced dealers. See posted membership fee structure. Seat fees are additional and are a straight $7/half hour (at least for the 1/3 NLH that I play) and collected by the dealer with dealer changes... or you can pay $15 to be part of the PLO DB Bomb Pot played at dealer changes, with the extra $8 (after the fee is subtracted) going into the bomb pot-- bomb pots are totally optional and you can just pay the fee and skip that hand.
The (not too) Bad: Games are usually a little slow to start when they first open (sometimes not for 1 hour) and definitely run on the low blind levels, so not a lot of high stakes games running in my experience. Tournaments are very popular with the guaranteed payouts, but tend to crowd out the cash games until people start to bust out and more tables open. A fairly small venue with tightly spaced tables, but manageable. No alcohol is served.
The (REALLY) Ugly: The bathrooms are tiny and, at least the men's room, absolutely stinks to high heaven of old urine/ammonia. It's so bad that it burns your eyes and throat and they prop open the door that opens out to the poker floor for ventilation. God help whoever is sitting at the tables right outside that door! The men's room has only 1 sink, 1 urinal, and 1 stall. Way too small when you've got almost 100 people in the room playing or waiting. For some reason they've got porous concrete stepping stones around the urinal to "catch" any "splashes" but all that does is trap the urine there and soak it up, making it worse. I can only hope the women's room is better, for their sake. The bathroom is what took this from a 4-star rating down to a 2-star review as I dread using it. I've actually considered going outside and finding a bush when I've been there after dark rather than using the bathroom. Yes, it's really that bad.
I would think that Chris Moneymaker (who has been know to stop in from time to time) would at least make the investment to upgrade the bathroom floors, plumbing, and improve ventilation since this club has got his name on it. I'm guessing he really wouldn't want to be known as the guy associated with the poker room having the stinkiest bathrooms in the entire state of Kentucky.
