This is probably the best card room in the Austin area, mainly because it's the room with the most players. Plenty of action, and for whatever reasons they have reinvented table stakes. $1-2 & $1-3 games will often have multiple $2K+ chips stacks. The cash games themselves are in general run pretty well. Although there are caps to the buy ins, there are often guys sneaking black chips onto the table in low stakes games, and nothing is really done about it. So the small games become large really quickly, yet they can never sustain $2-5 or 5-10 games, likely because those players are on the outrageous lower stakes games. Either way, it seems people are enjoying it, so there's probably no reason to change anything.
The dealers are generally pretty good, but like all places there are a couple of duds here and there. Texas card rooms are a bridge between home game and casino, and it's an interesting dynamic.
The tournaments are said to be top notched, and this week and next will showcase that. Overall, this place is a 4.5 stars, because of the sometimes sketchy table stakes, and the occasional less than stellar dealer. But let's be clear: there isn't a better place to play cards within 50 miles. So I couldn't imagine being from the area and playing any where else.
