Shrunk Post Pandemic but Still Solid

I'll preface this by noting every other review of the room is more than 5 years old and the room changed a lot since the pandemic. I played here a few times prior to 2020, but this was my first trip back in 4 years and comments reflect only my recent experience.

The major deficit of this room is that it's shrunk to just three poker tables; previously they had about nine. Most poker tables have been replaced with gaming tables which changes the poker experience dramatically. The room is pretty good for what it's trying to be but that bar isn't very high.

I played the Sunday tournament over the weekend. I arrived about 15 minutes before the start and there was plenty of space to get in. Tournament starts with 12,000 chips with sounds like a lot, but with blinds starting at 100-200, it's only 60 BB. Antes kick in after the first break, and the tournament really gets fast. Dealers were all good and kept the game moving, though occasionally missed changes to levels. One dealer added a stack of 20 100s to 30000 and got 50000, but that was corrected before any damage was done. The floor is friendly and polite and keeps the room in order. Was very receptive to my question about why we start with 25 chips when we never need them for blinds or antes. From what I saw, the level of play is not very high. Even the players who seemed good made some bad mistakes and didn't understand short stack strategy.

The tournament was enjoyable but here's one place where the size of the room becomes an issue. I cashed for better than second place, but only got $900 on a $200 buy in. It was a much better tournament when they had 40-50 players and a commensurate prize pool. Of course they can't force players to come but the size is a limiting factor especially if they're running a cash game.

They had one cash game running and given only three tables and wide selection of games they offer, I suspect you could easily wind up with no game running, a bad game, or a long wait depending on the time of the week. On the bright side, there's now plenty of parking in the back.

The room is friendly and professionally managed and worth checking out if you're in the area. But I wouldn't drive 30+ minutes to play as I did.
