Traveling from upstate and decided to play some poker. This poker club is all raked at a rate of $10-$15 per hand out of every pot. I will never be back. Lets do some simple numbers.
For the sake lets average the rake at $12 per hand x 20 hands per hour. $240 per hour taken from the game.
That means $240 is coming off your table every hour. You each brought $200 — $1,800 total among the 9 of you. By the end of 10 hours you've collectively given up $2,400, leaving the table negative -$600 with which to play. Players miss this because new players jump in with more money and feed it. Now at $240 per hour at a 9 handed game, breaks down to $26.66 per hour per player.
