Stinky, with characters, low rake, a lot of fun

It's off the floor and there's a lot of noise and smoke, and frankly the El Cortez isn't the nicest smelling place either. (People, if you haven't been there, go: the good gambling and the vintage decor make it worthwhile.) THE RAKE IS MAXED AT $2.50. I haven't seen a easier rake anywhere.

There will be bankroll volatility in their 1-3-6 Hold'Em spread game. Disciplined play is the antidote to bankroll volatility; if you can play a tight game you'll be in heaven.

Nothing to note either in the plus or minus column. The players will keep you way more netertained than the dealers will.

Yes, if you're used to strip looks, ambience, and selection you'll not like their service. It's not bad though; the most popular bands always come fast enough.

There' always someone on duty at their one desk. Really a three-table room isn't hard to manage.

Play for four hours, get a $5 coffee-shop comp. The coffee shop is amazingly huge; sadly, $5 only gets you a breakfast or most of the price of a special. I'd also recommend the free slot club coupon you can get from their website. The fun book has another $5 comp for food and a lot of other neat coupons as well.
