Fun, Laid-Back Room

Even though this "room" is actually a roped off part of the casino, it is set away from other things, pretty quiet, and not too busy. It's not in the middle of the casino, like in Paris or Bally's. It's a small room. There were four games going - two 2/4 and two 1/2 NL games, along with periodic $50+10 shootout Sit & Go's. The room only spreads low-limit Texas Holdem.

The competition here is pretty easy. When I first started playing around 10 PM (at a newly started table), there were plenty of bad players to go around. As the night continued, the game became a lot more tight/aggressive, but it was still not the toughest game you'll find at that hour. Additionally, in my two visits to this room in the last year, I've found the players to be a lot nicer and more laid back than players in a lot of the other rooms.

As far as friendliness and personality, the dealers would get a 5. All of the dealers were friendly, talkative (not in a bad way), and made jokes. They are probably the most fun bunch of dealers I have come across in Las Vegas. The reason they don't get a 5 overall is because a few of them aren't the greatest dealers in the world. For example, one dealer totally missed one player taking another's stack by accident (when he was away from the table) as part of a pot, when it was directly in front of his face.

The cocktail situation is a lot better than you might initially expect. The bar that they get drinks from is not far away, so the service is prompt. The waitress seemed to be constantly going and coming, even though there were only four tables playing.

Given that this is a small room, the dealers assist in managing the room when they are not dealing. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. When I arrived, there was a short wait-list, and the person behind the desk told me to help myself to their cookies and other treats, and to feel free to sit at an empty table until a spot opened up. Additionally, the floor started a 1-2 NL game with only five people (after asking if we wanted to play shorthanded) with half a rake. The table quickly filled to capacity shortly after we started. I doubt many of the bigger rooms would have done that.

I believe that players receive $3 an hour for playing, which is far above anything any other place will give to you. One dealer mentioned they'll give you $75 for a straight flush, another mentioned they'll give you a free dinner for something like that, but there are no jackpots. They also have free cookies, sandwiches, and other stuff for players. I'd recommend the chocolate chip cookies.
