Very solid poker experience just an hour north of Dallas / Fort Worth, and given how soft it is, Houston residents could turn a tidy profit making the drive across the Red River. While the casino is not my favorite, thanks to the loud slot machines and shambling denizens, the Poker Room is tucked away at the far end, free of the noise. Offering, to my recollection, 1/2, 1/3, 2/5, and 5/10 NLHE, 4/8 LHE, and several limits of Omaha, all with multiple tables ready to play, there is plenty of action here. Because the players tend to be either 50+ or 20something grinders, it's very easy to figure out who to beware and who's just there to gamble. I average well above 5BB/hour at the 1/2 and 1/3 tables here, as a competent player (but no shark). The rake is also very small, at least at the stakes I played (in contrast to the $0.50 antes at the table games in the rest of the casino, which makes counting cards at stakes less than $500 minimums entirely impossible). The food options, for the most part, take some walking, but are open at good hours and don't charge too egregiously. I strongly recommend Winstar's Poker Room for any Texas player looking for soft action within a reasonable drive. (Or perhaps this Houston traffic has me thinking an hour is reasonable!)
