I've been playing at Choctaw a few years now. While I think it's leaps and bounds better than Winstar, I'm starting to become disappointed in the room for several reasons. Now before I start, I've always run fairly well at Choctaw so note this isn't a "I can't ever win here so I'll leave a bad review" post.
First the poker chips are disgusting and also have a very cheap feel to them. The cards too. I can get over the cheap chips but my god can we clean them up a bit. They stick together and you can visibly see how dirty they are. It isn't hard to give them a cleaning and upgrade to some nicer cards.
Second, the dealers are getting progressively worse every time I come. Many are very young and brand new. (Not all are bad, there are some very good ones but they are few). So many dealer mistakes on the majority of hands played. I had a dealer last night that wasn't paying attention to the cards at showdown and one player in the hand said "chop", and without even looking to see the cards he listened and started chopping the fairly big pot and was confused when we spoke up and said it wasn't a chop. Other mistakes, starting the action on the wrong player, allowing players to pull back bets and string bet. One dealer dealt the river card when one person had not acted yet on the turn. These are just some that I remember right off and they happen almost every time I go play at Choctaw.
Third, and this more of a personal preference I guess, but some of the regs there are absolutely miserable to play with. Constant hostility towards dealers and other players and non stop complaining about every single thing that inconveniences them even hours later. I go to have a good time at the table, talk it up, crack jokes and keep the table light and playing with these dudes completely ruins the mood of the table. I get some people aren't that way and are there to "make money" but you can do that without being a complete d***head to every at the table. Kind of ruins the whole hang and camaraderie of the table.
These are my biggest issues with the room and they are sadly getting worse. (However still better than Winstar). Room still has good action players, $500 1/2 max buy in is nice. Chairs are comfortable. But the only thing keeping me coming back is because it's the closest room to me by an hour. Hopefully it's gets better, or I may be changing rooms and just driving little further to Dallas.
