other rooms are too shady.. they hire mechanics, rake the pot excessively, solicit prost****ion, and have "hidden security" aka a bunch of people sitting in there have guns on them. how much do you trust poker players to protect YOUR life or money in an emergency situation? the last time a criminal tried something at tch spring (over 2and a half years ago) they got swiss cheesed up by a professional security detail.
likewise, tch is the most consistent card room in houston, probably in texas. its the only card room i would feel comfortable bringing friends and family to learn the game of poker. they offer a wide range of tournaments and there is always a cash game running. there may not be "free" food and drinks but the money you save by avoiding the excessive rake at other clubs could buy you all the drinks you could ask for at tch, and theres plenty of restaurants in the area that will bring you food. do the math people, if you win 3 hands in an hour at other clubs, thats 45$ gone, sometimes 60$. at tch you would have paid 13$ in time for the same pots. factor in the time specials and it is basically dirt cheap. you even get a free hour in time when you register before a tournament starts.
as for nearby clubs who want to send people to take players, make sure you tell them about the mechanics, angle shooters, and colluders. it is negative EV to play anywhere besides tch
