Being in this room makes you feel like you're part of some sort of televised event. It's modern, upscale feel and location in the casino makes it feel very exclusive but not terribly insulated from the goings-on on the property. I think this is actually a good thing; it makes the room easy to find and in turn makes the casino itself fairly easy to navigate...a necessity with a property like the MGM.
The cahirs are fairly comfortable and tables are new and modern. In terms of technology, this room probably sets the standard, from the auto-shufflers at the tables to the electronic waiting list.
A tourist haven, but for every table full of fish there seems to be one tourist who knows what he's doing and will keep you on your toes. I played with a range of folks during my 3 hour session here...from maniacs raising every preflop to immovable rocks to calling stations to folks who could really give you a run for your money. One guy I talked to who was from the midwest says he makes a trip out to Vegas 3 or 4 times a year and plays the Grand exclusively. So while you'll get plenty of clueless types there is competency scattered about to break up the monotony. I couldn't pick out any obvious locals playing here, but I'm sure they were in the midst somewhere.
Dealers I had were sharp and professional. No misdeals, no screwed up payouts. One player started getting a little out of his gourd at the table after a bad hand and was shot a look from our dealer Kevin (or was it Keith? something with a "K") and that's all it took. He exuded professionalism and knowhow and was friendly and accomodating to boot. I had a very remedial question at one point and he answered it without making it sound like I was an idiot. I could've answered it myself if I had just let my brain churn for a second or two.
I actually wasn't in the mood to drink, but the cocktail service to other players seemed on-point and excellent. I didn't pay much attention to this though. In the past, I've received pretty prompt service, and if you throw $2 or $3 their way right off the bat you'll get a drink anytime you need it. The dealers can also call for a cocktail waitress electronically (seriously, how cool is this room?!?!) to make the drink service even quicker.
Very good overall. Like the dealers, management was prompt and professional. A bit of a wait, which I assume as standard procedure with this room, but they seem genuinely concerned about getting people the games they want as quickly as possible.
$1 for an hour of play, which is solidly average. I like the Luxor better in this category.
