The MGM room is great. Not a "room" in the same sense as Caesar's, the playing area nevertheless feels like a room and is well spaced from other attractions. The nearby bar plays music quite loudly at regular intervals, but the volume remained reasonable where I sat; one could clearly hear other players, the dealer, etc.
The room itself is great. The best feature is easily the electronic system that indicates to management which seats are open in which seats when. EVERY serious poker room should invest in this system. One never hears dealers shouting about open seats nor anyone calling out open seats over a microphone. (Once seated, hearing about which seats are open for JM, BJ, Kurt, and MD in the 4/8 game is quite unnecessary.) Open seats are filled quickly, quietly, and efficiently. This greatly adds to the atmosphere of the room and distinguishes it from others in Las Vegas.
At my 1/2 table, about half the players seemed familiar with the concept of pot odds. On the whole, there were no clear fish dumping money, though I heard that earlier a Canadian man had been blowing hundreds of dollars to other players earlier in the day. When I sat, two stacks had over $800, but both players were tight, making stack that less of an issue. On the whole, play was average. You needed to play solidly and get your share of breaks to make a profit, but making a profit was definitely doable.
The dealers were all polite and efficient. No complaints.
I did not get drinks, but the waitresses seemed to be coming by frequently.
Management seemed excellent, and filled out open seats quickly and efficiently.
Given my brief vacation and residence on the East coast, I did not inquire about the comps situation.
