MGM Grand Poker Room April 6, 2005

Of course this is a brand new room so everything was new and comfortable. The room was big, the chairs were comfortable and the chips looked brand new. The room was quiet as it is set away from any nearby slot machines. The room is huge, and if you sat in the middle I don't think you would hear anything. When I had four 6s, I asked them if I could spin a wheel, but they said they don't do that here.

This was the toughest room to play in. I played at MGM, Excalibur and Harrah's, and these people came to play poker, and it was only a $2-4 table. All the players knew what they were doing. They say this is going to be the place to play poker in the future, but I think the competition is too good and too serious for my play. I don't think I will return.

Dealers were very good and didn't make any mistakes during the 2 hours I was there.

Cocktails came as fast as you could drink them. I did not have enough to know the potency, but they give you huge olives with a Bloody Mary.

In the morning I walked up to a podium at the edge of the room. I stood there for 10 minutes and no one came over. Then a guy in a suit came up to the podium a couple of time in the next 5 minutes, gave me a dirty look and without saying a word, disappeared in the other side of the room. I left. I came back the next day because I really wanted to play in this brand new poker room. I found out there was a desk on the other side of the room, and that is where you had to check in. The guy saw me standing there and could have said something. That ticked me off.

They made a "Poker Room Comp Card" for me (looks cool), but other people used their MGM-Mirage card. You give it to the dealer and he swipes it. When you leave, he pushed a button and it signs you out. I only stayed 2 hours. They desk said they give you a $1 comp per hour, but I never tried using it or checking my card to see if I had $2.00 on it.
