A Good Experience Overall

Nice atmosphere. Nothing spectacular, but it was clean and fairly well-lit with flat-screen TVs everywhere (showing sports, of course). The tables were in pretty good condition and the chairs were comfy.

I can’t comment on any of the higher limit games because I only played 3-6 Hold’em. Overall, the level of play was less than impressive. I played two four-hour sessions, one on Sunday night and another on Monday afternoon. The Sunday night game had no really good players as far as I could tell. There were a couple guys who talked a lot and acted like they knew poker but weren’t actually very good; one was a local and the other was from Indiana. There were at least two very inexperienced European tourists. A young woman from Los Angeles seemed like a fairly competent player but was running bad and went busto. I had the misfortune of sitting next to a “table coach,” who told everyone (including me) how they should be playing their hands. Like most table coaches, he was an absolutley awful poker player; I almost never saw him fold pre-flop, and I didn’t see him raise pre-flop once. The Monday afternoon game had at least three locals, all of whom seemed competent (it’s always a bad sign when the dealer is calling someone by name). There were also two women from Fresno who were brutally bad at poker. There was also a guy who admitted he was playing poker for the first time ever. As afternoon turned into evening, the locals left and more tourists started showing up; but I was getting tired and had made a nice profit so I left.

Dealers ranged from very good to just OK. No problems.

Service was OK until one guy asked for a beer while the waitress was bringing drinks. She angrily told him that he’d have to wait until she came back to take orders and made him seem like a jerk for even asking. Way out of line. Even our dealer was talking about how wrong that was. Apparently the folks in the poker room have no control over the waitresses, which is too bad because that woman could give people a bad impression of the room.

Everyone I dealt with seemed very nice and welcoming. No complaints.

They have a poker rate for the hotel, which I didn't qualify for because I booked my room though a third party on the internet instead of dealing with the hotel directly. They didn't have any jackpots I was aware of, at least not for 3-6. I didn't ask about any other comps.
